Update: Astute reader “Unnamed Federal Employee With Goats,” as I shall call her, has pointed out to me this once in a lifetime opportunity via The Washington Post:
Host, “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Air America Radio; Future Show Host, MSNBC
Thursday, August 28, 2008; 11:30 AM
Air America Radio host and future MSNBC show host Rachel Maddow will be online live from Denver on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 11:30 a.m. ET to take readers questions about progressive Democrats in the 2008 election and at the convention.
The New York Observer has a sweet little story about my pretend girlfriend MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow:
As the sun came up over the Colorado plateau, Ms. Maddow thought about her future. In two short weeks, on Monday, Sept. 8, she would be debuting an eponymous prime-time show at 9 p.m. on MSNBC. Just a few years ago, the 35-year-old Stanford University graduate, Bay Area native and Rhodes Scholar hadn’t even been in journalism. But then she gave up academics and activism, and somewhat improbably landed a talk show on the liberal radio network Air America….
At the end of the week, Ms. Maddow would be flying back to New York and then jumping on a train to Massachusetts, where she lives with her longtime girlfriend (they met many years ago, when Ms. Maddow showed up to her house on a landscaping gig) and their 1-year-old black Lab. On Saturday, Ms. Maddow had plans to fish on a lake in the country. (It’s perhaps fitting that at the same convention where Democrats have to pinch themselves to remind themselves they are about to nominate an African-American, a lesbian becoming a major cable personality goes almost without mention.) ….
The party petered out because there wasn’t anything to drink. At midnight, Ms. Maddow headed off to bed.
“I’ll be upstairs, peering out the window, looking for any open bar within walking distance,” she said by way of good night…..
