McCain picks Gov. Palin for VP slot

According to CNBC:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled “hockey mom” who has only been governor for a little over a year, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain’s choice for Vice President, CNBC has learned.

According to a Republican strategist, Palin is the nominee, though McCain’s campaign has not comfirmed this.

With an announcement scheduled in Dayton, Ohio, an associate of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said the governor had been informed he is not McCain’s pick.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak for Pawlenty, who had all but ruled himself out.

“I’m not going to be there. I plan to be at the state fair. You can draw your conclusion from that,” Pawlenty said on his weekly call-in radio show on WCCO-AM in Minneapolis.

He also called it “a fair assumption” that he will not be McCain’s running mate.

Associates close to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney were saying the same thing, telling The Associated Press that the former presidential candidate had not been offered the job by McCain.

Apparently he’s going for the fleece vote. I will not be so easily swayed, Senator McCain!

  1. What an inspired choice. A, what, half a one term governor from a tiny state (population-wise) from an energy state.

High school athlete, former beauty queen. Yeah, she’s cute.

Has five kids, one of whom will soon deploy to Iraq, another of whom has Down Syndrome.

Anti-choice, anti-marriage equality. Did act to allow Alaska state employees to have benefits granted to their domestic partners.

    Foreign policy experience = zero.

Ready on day one? Not hardly.

One thing that might give us pause: radio shock jock Glen Beck loves her.

    Hmmmm.

  2. From the AP story that just went up:

“More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska’s public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.”

And MSNBC says she’s got some old ties to some of the more extremist types in the GOP.

    Hmmm.

  3. Why do I find this so disturbing: her children’s names are

Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig.

I do not trust people who name their children thusly ….

  4. Wow!! Talk about grasping for straws. He would have been better off with a local high school class president. Less baggage!! If it is the air headed non-policy studying still angry Hillary supporters he wants he can have them. These women verify why the pundit’s don’t want a women in the White House…they are voting with their hormones instead of the brains. Take them PLEASE! I am amazed these women can’t see how this choice is going to affect them and their daughter’s future and will set women back 50 years.

  5. You just know that any attempt to criticize Palin as lightweight, inexperienced, or tied to corruption is going to have Rush et al immediately ranting about misogynism. It’s going to be a really long two months until the election.

  6. Rush et al immediately ranting about misogynism.

And ain’t that something? After all these months saying disgusting, demeaning, insulting things about Hillary Clinton, they will indeed jump on the firs criticism of Palin as hypocrisy by the Democrats.

But I think her very real lack of experience, as they say “a heartbeat away from the Presidency,” will outweigh any arguments about criticisms.

  7. i think he totally blew it with this pick, and i am thankful for that! and i agree, he can have the women that will vote for him only because he has a woman on the ticket and their short sightedness. now, it is time to turn off the TV for 2 months and go vote and take back our government!
