McCain Watch: Ann and Nancy Wilson file cease & desist order against using their song, “Barracuda”

As any Heart fan knows, Ann and Nancy Wilson are not to be messed with. But the Republicans don’t care, and continue to blatantly violate copyright laws by repeatedly using songs without the musicians’ permission. (The Fair Use law allows anyone to use copyrighted material  one time for education or informational purposes without obtaining formal permission from the copyright owner. So while I post music videos here on Fridays I do so on a one-time basis and I don’t use it to promote an agenda but to make a point — for informational and education purposes. Not to grandstand at a rally, like John McCain. Which he has done several times before: John Mellencamp, Boston, and Jackson Browne have all complained that their music has been used by the Republicans without permission. )

Ann and Nancy Wilson released this statement:

“The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission. We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored.”

TMZ goes on to note that Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain’s speech with the song, “Barracuda.”
