Ahh. My Annual Oscar Reminder of Just How Out of Touch I Really Am

Some people make New Year’s resolutions. I make Oscars resolution. Every year I swear that I’m going to go see more movies in the theater. And every year when the award night rolls around, I haven’t seen almost any of them. Best Picture? Haven’t seen any. Best Actor? Nope. Best Actress? Uh, no. Neither of the supporting ones, either.

In fact, if you look at the list of Oscar Nominations, you have to scroll all the way down to Sound Editing to find  Iron Man, which I saw only because it’s already out on Netflix. And I might add, that I thought the editing in general was horrible. So what do I know?

Iron Man was also nominated for Visual Effects, for whatever that’s worth. The effects were pretty cool.

So I am sitting here watching the famous and pretty being interviewed on the red carpet, and my main question is:  Melissa Leo? WTF? I want to think that you haven’t succumbed to the Hollywood plastic surgeons, but …. Oh my. You don’t even look like the same person we all crushed on when you starred on “Homicide.”

I really need to get out of the house more often.

  1. we watched with Ben because he knew who everyone was, what movie they were in and who they were dating.

    because we had NO idea.

of course, he didn’t know the oldies. except meryl streep- devil wears prada. (she was good, he sighed)

you need to borrow a child.

  2. haha! We haven’t seen any of the movies except Iron Man (which i loved btw), we don’t even watch the awards ceremony, just wait to hear what the winners are so we know which movies are possibly a good choice for rentals!

  3. Well now I don’t feel so bad. Or at least so alone!

I should add, though, that I realized there was one more movie that I have seen — Vicky, Christina Barcelona, again only because it’s out on Netflix already. But I felt oh so “hip” (in a Michael Steele kind of way) because I saw — and really liked — Penelope Cruz in that movie. And she actually won for Best Supporting Actress!

  4. I actually saw Slumdog — it was the first movie I’d seen in a theater in about 3 years. The Younger Daughter wanted to go to a movie while she was here for the holidays, and I said, “Let’s see this one — it’ll be something different for you because for sure it’ll never play in Lufkin, Texas.” At that point I think it was only playing on two screens in the Atlanta metro area. Little did I know. . . Slumdog is probably in every multiplex in the country now.

  5. living in east jabit, i haven’t seen any of the nominated movies. and of course, the big winter storm knocked out my power and i couldn’t watch the awards either! was happy about a couple winners though, glad kate winslet won, i have always liked her body of work, and the trailers i have seen of the reader have been great, can’t wait to see it. also, glad sean penn won, as many more people will now go see milk, and hopefully, learn something about teh gays!!

  6. I know exactly what you mean about Melissa Leo-I wondered who they had the camera on last night because I knew that couldn’t be her!
